Without self-awareness, we are fooling ourselves into living out life through the view of reality rather than the real world. On a very basic level, self-awareness is a fair comprehension of yourself: your own propensities, qualities, zones in which you need improvement, your way of seeing life. Also, the more you think about yourself, the better you are at adjusting to change, developing consistently and positioning yourself for progress.

It’s a reality that keeps on thinking what others might think of us and that develops our personality. Our assumptions are based on what we hear and sometimes what we just felt others would think of us. It is a social-psychological process which affects us in building our own image based on others’ opinions.

Would they like me if I start the conversation? Is this dress going with my personality? What would they think if I tell them the truth?  Such questions and stresses continue vanquishing our brain as we think about our own image before society. The decisions we make, the behaviour we shadow and the manner in which we convey ourselves rely upon how individuals around us see things. In universities, Different Events of Curricular activities are held for awareness.

In 1902, an American sociologist Charles Cooley brought a social-psychological idea into the light, which he named as “The looking-glass self-theory”.  This theory clarifies how people make society and thus society shapes every individual’s character. When our next concern is the manner by which others will pass judgment on us dependent on that appearance. What’s more, in conclusion, we build up our own picture that mirrors those decisions.  What we find in the mirror isn’t our real self however an impression of it. Right now turns into the mirror that shows us our self-image. What we think about ourselves frequently originates from others.

Self-awareness as the key to unlock success

Realizing that we are being preferred or liked for a specific reason, makes us to feel great about it and thus builds our certainty and confidence. We will in general put more endeavors into the work we realize we would get acknowledged for. Therefore, we improve our abilities and keep up the degree of greatness to continue hearing those gestures of recognition and thanks.

How Society Requires Us to Adapt Different Roles

Our personality is an amalgamation of multiple roles that we play in our daily life. At home, we know that there are no hidden cameras, so we behave the way we are. We don’t pretend to be well-mannered, smart, bold or efficient. We keep calm and try to understand our responsibilities and duty towards our family.

At school or university, we play the role of a student and a student has to be studious, sporty, helpful, inquisitive and participating. As a friend, we have to be fun-loving, helpful and most importantly, a social butterfly that attracts everyone. At office, we can never play the role of a person who is naive, irresponsible or non-serious. At different spaces, society has decided for us the role that we shall play.

Is it all Useful or Dangerous as Well?

The idea that if we hear all the beneficial things about ourselves we will reflect as a superior individual, flabbergasts us. Yet, the idea that we don’t have the command over our own behaviour and decisions is dread inciting. As our encompassing without a doubt don’t disclose to every one of us the beneficial things about ourselves.

From birth to death, we continue hearing such advice and orders that shapes our character. We have been told how we should respond and adjust to various circumstances. Our age, sex and status turns into the premise of the limits set by society for us to follow.

Perceptions Can be Biased, Unfair or False

We all belong to this society which draws margins for others. Our judgments are based on what we observe. Observations make our perceptions of people around us and those perceptions can be unfair or biased most of the time. We tend to believe what appears to be a general impression of others. But we never bother to think ahead of that. There is a lot more than that in individuals than we think or perceive.

Unless if we are not hurting others or ourselves, we are allowed to do what we love to. Youngsters in youthful age or adolescents are increasingly influenced by this idea. They are effectively exposed to be controlled through advices and recommendations from their peers and grown ups. They become conformists in order to match the standards set by society.

Learn to Evaluate Your Self-image

We see our image through society’s eye and get affected by that unknowingly. We don’t purposefully tune in and accept to what individuals say. It’s not in our hands if we breathe in a space where our surrounding reflects a negative image of ourselves, creating a low self-esteem.

We are inclined to such circumstances for the duration of our lives and to overcome such occasions, we should attempt to assess our own images. Not with the points of view of others however with our own viewpoint, we can attempt to cooperate with various environmental factors to change our self-image whenever required. It is critical for a person to make an image which is based on our own thoughts rather than what others look like at them.
